Declaration for Original Pension of a Widow - Child or Children under Sixteen years of age surviving.

STATE OF Illinois, COUNTY OF Henry,

On this 13th day of March, A.D., one thousand eight hundred and seventy nine
Personally appeared before me F.G. Welton Clerk of the County Court of said county
The same being a court of record within and for the county and State aforesaid, Margaret R. Hunter
aged 38 years, who, being duly sworn according to law, makes the following declaration in order to obtain
the pension who was enrolled under the name of Daniel O. Hunter at Tiskilwa, Ills, on the 13th day of August,
A.D., 1862 in Co. "E" 93 Regt. Ill Vol Inf. In the war of the Rebellion, who died from Tubercular Phthisis The
result of the prostration attending Rheumatic Arthritis of left hip joint-resulting from a fall and subsequent
exposure while in the line of duty on the 20th day of December, A.D. 1878, who bore at the time of his
discharge the rank of Private, in service aforesaid; that she was married under the name of Margaret R.
Pickard to said Daniel O. Hunter on the 12th day of September, A.D. 1857, by Alpheus Cook, J.P. at
Whetland, Ills, there being no legal barrier to such marriage; that she had not been previously married, that
her husband had been previously married, that his former wife died May 30th 1856, that she has to the
present date remained a widow; that the following are the names and dates of birth of all his legitimate
children yet surviving who were under sixteen years of age at the father's death, to wit:


Florence R. Hunter, born July 31, 1864

Wilson H. Hunter, born June 2, 1866

Louisa A. Hunter, born May 14, 1869

Leander C. Hunter, born Dec 3, 1871

Fay E. Hunter, born May 7, 1876

That she has not abandoned the support of any one of his children, but that they are still under her care or
that she has not in any manner been engaged in. or aided, or abetted, the rebellion I the United States; that
a prior application has been filed by the said Daniel O. Hunter No. 41849, that she desires to act as her own
attorney, to prosecute her claim; that her residence is No………street, Atkinson, Ills, and that her post
office address is Atkinson, Ills

Also personally appeared Charles H. Demranville, residing at No….in…….street, in Atkinson, and Harriet
Demaramville, residing at No….in ……street, in Atkinson, persons whom I certify to be respectable and
entitled to credit, an who, being by me duly sworn, say that they were present and saw Margaret R. Hunter,
the claimant, sign her name (make her mark) to the foregoing declaration; that they have every reason to
believe, from the appearance of said claimant and their acquaintance with her, that she is the identical
person she represents herself to be; and that they have no interest in the prosecution of this claim.

Sworn to and subscribed before me this 13th day of March, A.D. 1879, and I certify that the contents of the
above declaration, &c., were fully made known and explained to the applicant and witnesses before
swearing, including the words……, erased and the words……, added; and that I have no interest, direct of
indirect, in the prosecution of this claim.

1. Previous wife of Daniel O. Hunter was Serena Maria Demaranville (3/1/1828-5/30/1856). She died in Milo Township, Bureau County Illinois and is buried in the Hunter Family Cemetery in Milo.

2. Additional known children of Daniel O. Hunter and Margaret R. Pickard:
Ida Lois Hunter (10/7/1859-4/27/1906)

3. Harriet Demaranville (Harriet Minerva Pickard 3/13/1842-12/22/1937) was sister of Margaret R. Pickard.

4. Margaret R. Pickard Hunter remarried to Amariah Withrow 9/27/1885 in Henry County, Illinois

5. F.G. Welton (Frank G. Welton) was County Clerk for Henry County
