My ancestor Felix Caleb LEEDS bought federal land in Edgington Township, Rock Island County IL in 1846. But county history says he came to the county in 1841. Could he have settled land in 1841, but only acquired it from federal government in 1846? Doesn't seem likely. I need ideas on figuring out what the Leeds family did in Rock Island County from 1841-1846?

Searching for information on John Robert WATSON and his wife Martha (WHITE) Watson, believed to be in Rock Island County 1 January 1859. My grandfather, George Calvin Watson, claimed Rock Island County as his place of birth on that date. Martha (White) Watson is believed to have died about 1861 and George Calvin and his brother, Howard, were fostered to the family of Valentine FUHR (FORE) seen in 1860 census on page 357 of the Buffalo township listing. Uncertain as to whether Buffalo township is the same as modern Buffalo Prairie township. George Calvin Watson and Howard Watson do Not appear with the Fuhr family in the 1860 census. Family tradition, although notoriously unreliable, holds that the father, John Robert Watson, had come to IL to escape prosecution for a murder, possibly in MO. This may account for difficulty in tracing this family. The fostering of the two boys to the Fuhr (Fore) family appears to have been informal. The boys are said to have lived with this family for a number of years (1861-1873?) Any information concerning this Watson family would be greatly appreciated.

I am seeking any info on my great grandfather, Charles REYNOLDS. He was born in Morgan County, Ill. on Jan. 4, 1827. I would like to know if he had any siblings. Also, who were his parents? Charles REYNOLDS married Maria MCNALL. I do not know where Maria hails from, but her parents were named Phoebe & Enoch MCNALL. Charles & Maria had 4 children: Charles C., Henry Norton (Nort), James B. and Phoebe. James B. REYNOLDS was born in Rock Island County, Illinois on Mar. 27, 1858. I do not know when the family moved from Morgan County up to Rock Island County. All 3 brothers went on to homestead in Stanton County, Kansas where James B. REYNOLDS met and married Sadie Louise ALLER. Charles C. later moved on to Montrose, Colorado. (Any info on his descendants would be greatly appreciated.) Henry Norton REYNOLDS moved to the place known as Jene Floyd Place, which I do not know where that is. (Anyone with any input as to his descendants, I'd love to hear from you.) James B. REYNOLDS later died at the home of his son, William REYNOLDS, in Salem, Oregon. Phoebe REYNOLDS married a man named James BELL, and she died in Anderson County, Kansas. In case it helps anyone else's search: James B. REYNOLDS & Sadie Louise ALLER REYNOLDS had 3 children: William, Clarence Alvan (Whitey), and Edith. Edith married Kirk LANE. I am looking for information on the ROBERTS family. Their daughter's death certificate indicated that they were from Canada. They moved from Plattsburgh, New York to Rock Island, Illinois. Peter Roberts and his wife Mary (Maiden name unknown) had at least one child: Florence Roberts: born March 25, 1841 (obituary says Febuary 25, death certificate says March 25) at Plattsburgh, New York. She died on July 29,1898 at Boyd, Wisconsin. The 1860 census in Rock Island, Illinois did list an Arthur P. Roberts with a wife by the name of Mary. Could this be the same man (P. = Peter?)? On October 28, 1857, under the rights of the Catholic Church, Etienne (Stephen) LOISELLE and Florence ROBERTS were married. They stayed in Rock Island, Illinois until 1861. He worked on the river and in northern Tennesse. Hearing of the rich laurels to be obtained in the frontier, they left for northern Wisconsin on a steamboat named Monitor on June 28, 1861. I am trying desperately, and have been for aprox. 8 years, to locate a long lost friend that served in Viet Nam with my significant other. I know he wants to renew their friendship and I would like to arrange a meeting for them as a surprise. I have posted many notices and made many calls, but have had no solid leads . I found this today and although it is not a family search, it is very important to us. If there is anybody out there that could help me in this search I am most grateful. I am looking for Hollis WAR. Hollis served in Viet Nam 1967-1968 in the 560th MP in Vung Tau.. All I know is that he was from Rock Island, Illinois and I believe his father was a minister there.Iam certain that he left Viet Nam alive. I want to surprise Jim with this reunion so please e-mail me at his e-mail address as I am the one that uses it. Thank you,

Here are two long-standing questions in my own Rock Island County research. My great grandfather, John MCDONALD, was raised in Moline. He had a number of sisters, and I'm trying to get a couple of their death dates.
--Alice McDonald (b. 1858) married Daniel CLARKE 1880 in Moline. She was alive and living in Moline at the time of my great grandfather's death in 1930.
--Mary McDonald (b. ca 1855) married William COATES in 1894 in Moline. (An earlier husband had been Washington HUEY.) She was also alive and living in Moline in 1930.
Another sister, Flora ANDERSON died in East Moline in 1937, and there is no mention of Alice or Mary as survivors. I'm trying to find dates and places of death of Alice and Mary, possibly between 1930 and 1937 and very likely in Rock Island County.

My ancestors: Felix Caleb LEEDS family and Marcus HARRIS lived in Edgington Township, Rock Island County. They appeared as neighbors in 1850 census. Mark HARRIS married Deborah LEEDS, daughter of Felix, in 1850. Mark and Deborah resettled in Harrison County MO around 1858⁄59 with two children and a third on the way. I seek and can share information on the LEEDS family, and I particularly need clues as to origins of Marcus HARRIS, apparently born around 1826 in Indiana. Felix Caleb LEEDS is said to have come to RI Co about 1841. His purchase of federal land was completed (recorded) in 1846.

I am looking for any information on the family of Edward and Mary (MCALLISTER) MAHER. They lived in the Rock Island area in 1860 and had 6 children, Timothy, Daniel, Martin, John, Mary, and Sadie. The oldest, Timothy eventually moved to Horton, Kansas (he is my grandfather). I think the family might have moved to Geneseo since I have found an Edward and Mary Maher there in the 1900 census and the ages are about right. I know that Sadie married Frank H. KELLEY and moved to Portland, Oregon but am still researching when. When my grandfather died his obituary listed his sister Mary as living in Geneseo and apparently not married, D.P. (Daniel) in Chicago and E.J. in Geneseo (John?). Any information about any of my relatives will be most appreciated.

I think I may have found one of my relatives but need some help. I had a great uncle Martin MAHER and think he may have been a priest in Warsaw. I know that is in Hancock County and not near Rock Island but wondered if any of you know the name of the Catholic church and perhaps the address in Warsaw. Or, if you have the name of a genealogical society there I could write them. These queries are supposed to be about Rock Island but they did live and farm in Carbon Cliffs when the kids were small so there really is a connection. Any help will be very much appreciated.

I am looking for information on Milton Oliver GRISWOLD. He lived in Rock Island in the early part from abt 1889 til his death in 1934. His wife was Albertine KUNO. He had at least two daughters, Frances WESTMEYER & Helen VIETHS. Helen had no children, but haven't been able to track down Frances. Any clues as to Frances WESTMEYER or if there were any other children. Haven't had a chance to look at the 1900 or 1910 census. If anyone has access, I would appreciate a lookup there also. Milton was my GGrandfather's brother.

Both of my parents are immigrants and I recently got sent an HTML family album by my uncle in Switzerland which revealed, surprisingly, that there was a previous emigration from Switzerland to "Rock County, Illinois" by one Friedrich ANDEREGG (1871-1928) wife: Katharina (1869-1958) kids: Bertha, Emma, Friedrich. I am trying to find out what happened to this US branch of our family.
