Henry Gilbert, 449 South State Avenue, former Postmaster at Winslow, passed away early this morning at a Freeport hospital following an illness of about a year. Mr. Gilbert was born in Union County, Pennsylvania, Jun 18, 1850, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Gilbert. When a young man of 16 he came west with his parents, the family having settled in Stephenson County, later going to Wayne, Wis., where they resided for some time. In June, 1888, Mr. Gilbert was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Robinson, of Monroe, Wis., after which the family moved to Winslow where Mr. Gilbert had been engaged in the mercantile business. He also served as Postmaster at Winslow. About twelve years ago they moved to Freeport where they have since resided. Mr. Gilbert has always been a member of the Methodist church and during his residence in Freeport he was a member of Embury church. He was also a member of the Good Fellowship class of that church.. He was a member of Excelsior lodge No. 97, A.F. A.M. He is survived by his widow and five brothers and two sisters, Mrs. Dolly Gates, who resides in the state of Washington, Peter Gilbert, Garner, Iowa; Josiah Gilbert, McCune, Kan; Dr. John Gilbert, of Pomeroy, Wash.; James Gilbert of Winslow; Frederick Gilbert, of High River, Alberta, Canada, and Mrs. Sarah Stackpole, of Warren. One son died in infancy. Arrangements for the funeral have not as yet been completed.
