Retired Contractor and Builder Dies In His Home After Brief Illiness
Joseph A. Glancey, 79 years old, a retired contractor and builder, died at 4:40 o'clock yesterday afternoon in his home, 1548 Fortieth street, Rock Island, after an illiness of 10 days. Mr. Glancey was born Nov. 16, 1855, in Franklin county Ohio, and moved to Aledo, Ill, with his parents as a child, the journey being made in a covered wagon. He attended Aledo schools, and in 1876 married Miss Mary Robb in Aledo. She preceeded him in death a number of years, and on May 12,1920, he married Miss Margaret McElhinney in Rock Island. He resided in Aledo from childhood until moving to Rock Island 18 years ago, and was active as a builder both in Mercer county and in  Rock Island. Surviving are the widow: a son Arba R.Glancey of Rock Island: three daughters, Mrs. Faye Douglas of Seaton, Mrs. Grace Schuchman of Little York, and Mrs. Lillie Butler of Kansas City Kan: a sister Mrs. Mary Cullison of Aledo: and three brothers, John Glancey in Montana,James Glancey of Minneapolis, Minn, and Frank Glancey of Rock Island. A son James C. Glancey preceeded his father in death. The body was removed to the Knox mortuary, and returned to the residence this afternoon. It will again be taken to the mortuary tomorrow morning for services in the chapel there at 2 o'clock in the afternoon.The Rev. A. L. Powell pastor of the Centenary Methodist church, Rock Island, will officate. Burial will be in Western cemetary, Orion.
