George Herman Ester

Quietly and peacefully George H. Ester slipped out of this life on the evening of Wednesday, October 31, at the Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, California.  His death came following a brief illness.

The deceased was born in Naperville, Illinois, on March 27, 1893 and all of his childhood and young manhood was spent in this city.  Throughout these years he acquired many friends through his occupation and interest and participation in community projects. At the time of his death he was service manager of the Firestone store in Santa Barbara, Calif.

Shortly after this country declared war he enlisted in the navy and served 18 months.  A good share of this time was spent on the high seas with a submarine crew which operated out of the naval base in the Azore Islands.  After his discharge he returned to Naperville for several years.  Following this he went to Fresno, Calif., where he operated a tire business.  It was while here that he married Miss Marion Attig of Ashton, Ill., who died one year later.  In 1928 he was united in marriage to Miss Lois Bodurtha of Westfield, Mass.  During this time he became associated with the Firestone company and served until his death.  A year ago he completed building a home in which he and his companion found much joy and satisfaction.

The deceased leaves his widow, Lois who is to return to Santa Barbara where she is an instructor in the Cottage Hospital, one sister Mrs. Evelyn Aguirre of San Francisco, Calif., and one brother Rev. Dore N. Ester of Peotone, Ill.

Funeral services were held in Santa Barbara on Friday, Nov. 2, with Dr. Robert MacLean, pastor of the First Presbyterian church of which the deceased was a member, officiating. Accompanied by his widow the body was brought to Naperville on November 5, where services were held at the Grace Evangelical church at which the pastor Rev. G. D. Nielsen officiated assisted by Rev. H. S. Stephan of Ransom, Ill., and Rev. L. C. Schmidt of Peoria.  Interment was made in the family lot at Naperville with the American Legion rendering their tribute with the rifle salute and taps.  Among the organizations of which George Ester was a member were the Loyal Order of Moose, I.O.O.F. and the American Legion.

Many friends and relative paid their tribute, among them Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Bodurtha of Westfield, Mass., Mrs. Avis Conno and Mrs. Josephine Monley also of Westfield, Emmett Stenger of Davenport, Iowa, and others.
